Understanding
Clear Aligners
What are aligners?
Aligners are a simple, effective way to straighten your teeth. They are clear and removable, making them a discreet alternative to braces. Aligners are custom-made to fit your teeth perfectly, gradually moving them into the desired position. Because they are removable, you can eat whatever you like and clean your teeth normally. Most people won't even notice you are in treatment, and they are generally more comfortable than regular braces.
How Does it Work?
You and Dr. Vaccariello will evaluate your teeth and discuss any problems or goals for your smile at your consultation. Once aligners are determined to be the right treatment option, we will take a digital scan, photos, and x-rays of your teeth, which are used to manufacture your custom aligners. Depending on your treatment needs, the aligners may be made in the office or by an external manufacturer. As you progress through the clear aligners, your teeth will gradually move with each tray until your bite and smile are perfected. You will still require regular visits every 4-8 weeks for the orthodontist to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments.
What Can It Do?
Aligners can treat a wide variety of issues that prevent people from achieving their ideal smiles. Straighter teeth not only look better but function better too. Poorly-aligned teeth can interfere with bite function, wear out faster, and are more prone to cavities.
My dentist offers aligners. Why should I go to an orthodontist?
Orthodontists have specialized training in tooth movement and bite correction, which ensures that your teeth are moved safely and effectively. While general dentists can offer aligners, an orthodontist has the expertise to address complex bite issues, prevent relapse, and achieve long-term optimal results.
